Job description

Under moderate supervision performs simple to complex dimensional and visual inspection of parts, final assemblies, tooling or cylinders by utilizing the appropriate tolerance based IM&TE. Reads and interprets drawings, inspection plans and specifications to ensure requirements are met. Completes quality records and documents non-conforming products. Focus is on learning advanced inspection techniques and mastering the use of complex inspection equipment.


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. According to specifications, performs accurate dimensional and visual inspection of components, final assemblies, purchased products, tooling or cylinders by utilizing the appropriate tolerance based IM&TE.
  2. Reads and interprets documents such as; drawings, work order instructions, inspection plans and specifications.
  3. Verifies products are in conformance with all engineering requirements, work order specifications and instructions.
  4. Conducts basic in-process and courtesy checks for production and conducts in-process inspection auditing.
  5. Performs accurate inspection on various thread types, i.e. NPT, NPTF, UNF, BPT, API, etc.by using Go/NoGo ring gauges and specifications.
  6. Assists with maintaining quality inspection records within database systems for tooling.
  7. Completes and documents inspection records, i.e. 1st Article reports, Dimensional reports, LAT documents, etc. on the computer using various software programs and inspection instructions.
  8. Interprets and performs inspections on GD&T dimensions.
  9. Records non-conformances of products or documents and forwards information to appropriate personnel.
  10. Learns to use advanced inspection equipment; i.e. CMM, optical comparator.
  11. Adheres to safety practices and procedures.
  12. Follows procedures as defined by Fike policies, procedures, ISO9001 requirements and others as applicable.

Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds using appropriate moving devices and as a minimum lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:

The employee is occasionally exposed to guarded moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment is organized and controlled.


Essential Skills:

Job Qualifications:

Required:  High School Diploma or a General Educational Development Diploma (GED). Minimum of three years dimensional inspection or machining experience. Must have intermediate troubleshooting skills. Ability to read and interpret drawings, work orders instructions, inspection plans and various specifications. Experience in utilizing precision measuring tools, (i.e. micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.). Good math and communication skills. Must be detail oriented. Basic computer skills.  

Preferred: Exposure to machining operations. Experience with CMM and optical comparator. Working knowledge of thread characteristics. Experience inspecting welds. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, JDEdwards, software programs; i.e. QC5000, GeoMeasure, and Gagetrak.

Four 10 hour Shifts

Monday-Thursday 4:30pm to 3:00am
